Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was a return to a traditional sextet style, and a more consistent, stronger album with a sharper edge. The more edgy sound of the album was a reflection of the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's greater virtuosity on drums, and an improved, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams.
