Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique keycase to celebrate the brand's centenary. Made from Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it comes with a flying 'B' paperweight, a set keys as well as a brochure with never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.

This is the perfect way to welcome a new owner of a vehicle.

Aesthetics

As a design-driven company, Bentley takes its aesthetics extremely seriously. This is evident in the precise placement of its quilting and the use of leather derived from cattle by-products and sustainable managed forests, and the ingenuous patterns of its levers. As you approach a vehicle like the Continental GT W12, its stunning design is accentuated by carefully selected lighting.

The Continental GT is Bentley's most sophisticated open-top car. The rear tonneau on the Continental GT, for example it was the largest piece of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Design

The custom heating and ventilation system as well as the air conditioning system was created to provide each passenger with the perfect climate control setting.

In addition to a set of stylishly executed styling changes The Mulsanne is powered by twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine that can produce 560bhp and 479lb ft of torque. In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a specific specification that is called the Centenary Specification for cars manufactured in 2019. This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings are embroidered with Centenary Gold on the headrests seats, the interior and other areas of the car. This makes it more fun to celebrate. A custom Bentley key case is also included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.

Function

Personalisation

Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers create their own car. Customers sit at a set of pictures referred to as "mood stations" and choose a selection of photos ranging from picturesque views to sporting events that are inspiring to them to design their own. Each time a selection is made the pattern that emerges shows the model, color and style preferences for the personalized Bentley.

The guests are given an individual key case created by hand that contains the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. The keys are also equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps, which illuminate the door-opening path with the owner's name and/or emblem as they are approaching the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it takes 500 man-hours on average to construct and build the Mulsanne. One of the main reasons for that lengthy effort is a deliberate refusal to take advantage of modern technology. The Crewe factory workers do not employ a machine to place perfectly-matched leather seats. Instead, they do it by hand. Drivers must park their vehicles manually, rather than using sensors built into the vehicle to guide them into parallel and perpendicular spots.

The event also saw Bentley presented its Mulliner personalization capabilities with one particular example - the Mulsanne W.O. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays homage to the founding father of the brand, William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited-edition cars include one key that features a portion of the 1930 8 Liter's crankshaft.
