It also comes with a variety of other options, like intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses cameras in conjunction with processor-powered smarts to detect obstacles. It rarely gets derailed or stuck during a cleaning cycle, and it's the best robot vacuum and mop hybrid at avoiding power cables and other objects in my tests. It's not as precise in detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

While the Anker-owned Eufy has made an impact in low-cost robot vacuums it hasn't previously offered an all-in-one model which can also mop. That changes with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive set of modern features and is able to compete against much more expensive models.

Laser navigation is the most important feature of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have created a rough map of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into objects but the X8's laser mapping system is much more accurate. It takes less time to create a comprehensive map of your home and can store multiple maps. This is ideal for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is still a decent vacuum on floors with no dust that can carry debris under its side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin with ease. The Tyres of the X8, despite their circular shape, are very efficient at grabbing corners and edges. It's not the best cat litter eater, however, with our tests showing it can only remove about 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.

There's a basic mopping mode that uses the same water tank as the vacuuming one. While this is great for loose spills however, you aren't able to limit the amount of water it uses and this will reduce its effectiveness when dealing with more serious stains. It's effective in removing pet hair. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances Miele's RX2 robot vacuum is a great choice because of its cleaning power, stunning design, and a great navigation. However, it has some operational issues which prevent it from being considered as the top overall smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping technique that makes use of LIDAR to map a room and a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and eliminating obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room is defined and assigned, you can designate virtual no-go areas and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also begin an automatic clean or manually change the cleaning mode, watch live feeds from the onboard cameras and more on the main screen.

The sensors of the RX2 work well, registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. Its sweeping and suction powers are outstanding, effectively removing surface litter from carpets with medium pile and also removing embedded dust on bare floors. It's not the most powerful robot on the market. It's not the most efficient climber, and it has problems with metal threshold transition strips.

A lot of people purchase a robotic vacuum to enjoy the convenience of setting a schedule in an app and forgetting about it for weeks at a time. 4. Shark ION

This budget robovac is a robot that is similar to other, but has several more features and better performance. Its navigation abilities were impressive as well and its overall score on carpet and bare floors was better than the competition and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of the surface pet hair and litter from our laboratory test samples.

Its controls are a bit more basic than those of competitors. There's a round cleaning button on the top, and you can access it via the app or by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for daily or weekly cleans, set no-go zones, and view its cleaning history. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks attractive in your home. Its rear dustbin is accessible for emptying, and removing the filters is also simple.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a basic low-cost robot vacuum at a low price, the Eufy 11S might be your best bet. It isn't equipped with some of the advanced features, such as digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are available in higher-end models but if you're not looking for those functions you can save a little money by purchasing this model.

The robot is easy to setup and use. It doesn't require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. Like other robots, the 11S will be able to suck up objects, such as cords hoodie drawstrings, and cat toys. The manufacturer states that you can prevent this by keeping such objects off the floor and using an organizer for cords if you can. It also recommends cleaning the dustbin on a regular basis replacing the filters, and changing or washing the brushes as required.

6. IRobot Roomba 980

The Roomba is iRobot's flagship robot vacuum. It's pricey, but it's also the most powerful good robot vacuum vacuum you can purchase. Its self navigation and environmental mapping are a wonder to behold. It also comes with more advanced automation features than most competitors, such as the ability to set virtual boundary markers through its mobile application. Although its application is a bit slow, and the 980 does spin out a bit while moving over cables, it's still a very capable robot vacuum.

One thing we really like about the 980 is that it uses its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to memorise the floor plan of your home. It will use this information to create a consistent, efficient cleaning path in every cycle. The result is cleaner floors, and a more efficient vacuum than the majority of high-end robot vacuums.

Other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes that pick up dirt from carpets and hard floors, along with an ejector brush that moves debris into the robotic hoovers vacuum's bin. The floor tracking sensor helps it navigate around furniture, along edges and up stairs. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It can also return automatically to the base station to allow for recharging in between sessions. Although the 980's battery lifespan and bin size isn't as efficient as other robot vacuums it's a solid and reliable machine that will keep your floors spotless for hours at a time.
