3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheel buggy is great for rough terrain, offering the most comfortable ride for your child. They are also easier to move and push than a four-wheel buggy, especially if they have fabric sling seats or seat units that are placed snugly in the frame, delivering the best geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheel buggy has excellent stability, which is why it's a good choice for off road walking (especially with an all-terrain or off-road style seat unit). Seating

The capacity for seating of 3 wheelers is impressive and there are many different choices to choose from. The carrycot that comes with it is ideal for a newborn (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a cozy and comfortable lie-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy). Older infants and toddlers will enjoy the spacious and padded seat with adjustable ventilation. It's worth noting that the seats don't recline fully, but they can be lowered to the lowest setting which will give your child plenty of headroom and room to move around.

A sling seat made of cloth is also available, which has the advantage of being set snugly inside the frame instead of over the top of an open-back seat. This gives a lower centre of gravity as well as a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, especially over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat dealt with the obstacles.

This type of buggy has an extensive basket and other beneficial features like an extendable hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal, and some innovative visibility lights that can be positioned in front of the occupants to increase safety on rough terrain.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame makes a buggy more stable and sturdy to push one-handed, and it's also great for handling difficult terrain. However, it means that the basket won't hold as much as a 4-wheeler buggy.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are designed to give your child more comfort while riding by cushioning out bumps and uneven surfaces. They are commonly included on pushchairs such as the Phil and Ted's Sport, which MFM reviewer Kath said offered "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres on it made it easier to handle cobbles and kerbs.

They can be difficult to maintain and will need to be replenished regularly. They are also more vulnerable to punctures than foam tyres so it is essential that you have repair kits along with a spare inner tube and pump in case you go you're out and about in your buggy.

PU tyres are typically used on pushchairs because they are a cheaper option than tyres filled with air, but they are equally durable. You can tell PU tyres by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide over flat and tidied surfaces.

If you rub your hands over the tyres, then you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it's moving, then it's a PU. You can also confirm that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres simply by sliding the tyres over flat, clean surfaces They'll roll easily and should fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can handle the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. This can make your double buggy 3 wheels less stable because the foam will lose its springy feel. These tyres also make a lot of noise due to the fact that they create a lot noise when you turn and drive around the town.
