There is currently a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and an increase in demand worldwide.

Our service provides private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history, as well as an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your assessment After your assessment, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, by video link or by phone). Your physician will explain to you the various options for medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will recommend titrating dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process may take several weeks, and requires gradually altering your child’s medication until the appropriate balance is reached. It is not uncommon to have to adjust up to three different medicines until you discover the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. It is essential for parents to take part in this process of titration, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour so that they can let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment, you will receive an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You must attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done via zoom video call. However, in certain cases, it may be possible to have an audio-only consultation to be conducted (again with an additional cost).

We will then go over the options for treatment and then decide on a bespoke, individualised ADHD medication titration. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose, as well as any side effects you might be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. The pharmacy will charge you for any medication costs.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history and the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any mental health issues that you might be suffering from. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, which is why it's crucial to assess your family background to determine if you're at a higher chance of developing this condition.

It is crucial that you are honest and open with your doctor during this assessment, as the information they gather will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. If you have decided that you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this area. This can be done at the time of your diagnosis if you are eager to begin treatment immediately or within two weeks if prefer to take time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options that are available to you.

We suggest that if you are unsure of your preferences, talk to your GP prior to booking your private assessment. Some providers have different guidelines regarding whether or not they require a GP letter. Check if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them after you leave the clinic for medication prescription.

Medication

Medication is an integral part of the journey for many people who are looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. It isn't always easy to obtain an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

This will cut down your waiting time significantly and is more convenient when you are working and have a busy schedule.

Once you've been referred, your clinician will evaluate your condition to determine if you need medication adjustment. You'll need to complete forms that are different for each provider however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories dating back to childhood and adulthood. These will help your clinician determine any issues that could suggest you should not take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are being titrated the medication will be a combination stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be thoroughly examined and monitored to determine the best combination for you. Depending on the type of medication you are taking, follow up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly.
