Private ADHD Titration

There is a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and an increased demand in the world.

Our service is able to provide private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

Following your assessment you will be informed if medication is considered to be beneficial for your situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link, or over the phone). Your physician will go over the different options for medication available. If you decide to start medication, we can help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to optimize the benefits/side-effects balance for you.

This process could take a few weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child’s medication until the appropriate balance is reached. It is not unusual to need to titrate three or four medications before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It's important for parents to take part in this process of Titration Process Adhd and keep a close eye on their child's behaviour, so that they can let the doctor know whether the medication is helping or causing side effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will be issued a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay for your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You must attend every six months to check your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted by video conference using zoom. In some circumstances, it might be possible for an audio-only consultation to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).

We will then discuss treatment options and decide on an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication titration. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose and any side effects you might be experiencing. The cost for these titration appointments is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms impact your life, including any relationship issues you might be having or other mental health problems that you might be experiencing. It is important that you are honest and open to the doctor during this assessment, as the information they gather will be used to determine whether your ADHD meets the diagnostic criteria. This is an important step, as a wrong diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you decide to be treated for ADHD We'll set up an appointment for a follow-up visit with a psychiatrist who specializes in this field. This can be scheduled at the time of your diagnosis if you want to start treatment right away, or within two weeks if you prefer to take time to consider the implications of your diagnosis and the possibilities that are available to you.

We recommend that if you are unsure about your preferences, you talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment. Some providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require the submission of a GP letter. We also advise that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement', which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic, you will be referred back to them for the prescription for medication.

Medication

For many who wish to obtain an individual diagnosis of ADHD medication is a crucial part of their journey. Getting a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and time-consuming. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to ask your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose a provider that offers a private assessment and titration service. This can reduce your wait time by a significant amount and what is titration in adhd more convenient when you are working and have a full schedule.

After you've been referred through this route your chosen doctor will evaluate you and determine whether or not you need to be monitored for a dose of medication. You'll need to complete forms that are different for each provider but the most frequent ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories going to childhood and adulthood. These forms will allow your doctor to determine if there are any circumstances that indicate you shouldn't take ADHD medication, if they have been prescribed.

If you are on a titration medication, it is likely to consist of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. They will be examined and monitored to determine the best combination for you. The titration process may be lengthy and may need several additional appointments before you are stable on your dose.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and quantity of medication you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician making sure that you are stable on the medication, noting any adverse effects you've experienced, and making any necessary adjustments to ensure you are in a safe dosage. You will also be required to attend a routine health check which can include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight and an annual check-up.

For some people, it may be that they are happy with their medication and don't need any further discussion on their titration. For those who require further discussion about their titration and treatment plan it's possible to be referred back to the same private clinic that performed their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be included in their consultation fees and they will receive their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than prescriptions from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
